Overview
When your account is created, you are given a default sending domain of email.yourdomain.com for your marketing emails. This guide will walk you through how to confirm your domain, change it if you prefer, and how to add a new one if it is in your package.
If you are good with your emails coming from @email.yourdomain.com then you are done with this step and can move on to Authenticating Your Domain!
What is This Domain For?
Your emails will come from this domain. You can have multiple sender profiles within this domain. For example, your promotional emails could come from promotions@email.yourdomain.com and your behavioral could come from info@email.yourdomain.com.
Choosing a Domain (optional)
If your company is Acme.com, you will see under the ⚙️-> Account Settings -> Domains & IPs section that have a default domain setup as @email.acme.com.
Once your domain is selected you will need to Add Domain Information to Your DNS.
Why Not Use My Root Domain?
In this example, why wouldn't I send my emails from @acme.com? That option is available. However, we don't recommend this approach, because your deliverability would then be tied to your root domain, which could impact other parts of your business in the long-term.
You also want to differentiate between different types of emails, and not muddy deliverability between them. For example, no matter what, you want your transactional emails to hit the inbox and not be impacted by your marketing emails.
Should I Change It?
If you don't have a branding or specific reason to change it, the answer is likely to be no. We find some companies like to have it fit their brand more than "email". If you are a tea company, you could choose to send from @steeping.myteacompany.com. It's important that this is a domain that you want to stay with long-term because your deliverability (if it shows in the inbox or spam) is tied to this domain.
Changing Your Domain (optional)
To change your domain, you need to delete and add a new one. Please only do this if you have not sent any emails yet, or you have talked with support.
To delete your domain, click on the Delete Domain within the domain cart
Then add a new domain by clicking on the Create New Domain button. From there, give it a new name and save. This will generate all of the records to you need to add to your DNS.
